Republican Jobs is leading the search for a Sacramento-based nonprofit organization seeking a highly skilled and mission-driven Director of Legal Affairs to lead our litigation and legal strategy at the trial, appellate, and supreme court levels. This individual will play a key leadership role in shaping high-profile legal cases, advising on policy matters, and supporting the organization’s public-facing legal communications. The ideal candidate will bring a strong civil litigation background and thrive in a values-driven, conservative legal environment.
Roles & Duties
- Lead litigation strategy for active and pending cases in trial, appellate, and supreme courts
- Manage complex legal disputes at the state level, including conducting bench trials
- Handle evidence presentation, deposition strategy, and witness questioning
- Draft and execute written discovery to surface essential case facts and build legal arguments
- Provide legal analysis and policy recommendations on proposed legislation
- Draft and propose amendments to pending legislative language
- Respond to legal inquiries from the public, policymakers, and media
- Draft and review public-facing legal content, including opinion editorials, briefs, and analysis pieces
- Review and edit legal work produced by senior and junior legal staff
- Collaborate with executive leadership and advocacy teams to support organizational mission and legal priorities
Job Requirements
- On-site presence required in Sacramento, California

- Experience managing high-profile, politically sensitive cases
- Ability to work under pressure while maintaining accuracy and professionalism
- Strong collaboration skills to work cross-functionally with leadership, advocacy, and communications teams
Qualifications
- J.D. degree and active membership in the California State Bar (required)
- Extensive civil litigation experience, including significant state appellate practice
- Proficiency in courtroom procedures, evidence handling, and discovery
- Strong understanding of the legislative process and experience in policy advising
- Exceptional legal writing skills with the ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and persuasively
- Demonstrated leadership and experience managing litigation teams or legal departments
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks effectively, and meet deadlines
- Comfortable operating in a conservative, mission-aligned nonprofit environment
Compensation and Benefits:

Schedule:
The Director Legal Affairs will be expected to work full-time and may include occasional travel as needed.
