Roles/Duties:
- Design and draft comprehensive estate plans tailored for high-net-worth individuals and families.
- Provide expert legal counsel on federal and state tax issues affecting estates, gifts, and trusts.
- Represent fiduciaries, executors, and beneficiaries in trust and estate administration.
- Analyze and prepare estate and gift tax returns, and assist clients during audits.
- Create and implement business succession plans and charitable giving strategies.
- Keep current with changes in tax and estate planning laws and advise clients accordingly.
- Build and nurture long-term relationships with clients, family offices, and financial advisors.
Job Requirements:
- Education:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school
- LL.M. in Taxation or Estate Planning strongly preferred
- Bar Admission:
- Licensed to practice law in South Carolina, or willing to obtain admission
- Certifications:
- Certified Specialist in Tax Law or Estate Planning (or actively pursuing certification)
- Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in trusts, estates, and tax planning
- Proven history of working with high-net-worth individuals, family offices, and business owners
- Strong familiarity with estate, gift, and fiduciary income taxation
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in drafting complex estate planning documents
- Deep understanding of IRS rules, estate/gift tax return preparation, and audit response strategies
- Comfortable using legal research tools and practice management software
- Professional Qualities:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- High ethical standards and discretion in handling sensitive client matters
- Strong organizational abilities with attention to detail
- Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in the South Carolina Bar, or eligibility to waive in.
- LL.M. in Taxation or Estate Planning preferred.
- Certified Specialist in Tax Law or Estate Planning (or eligibility for certification).
- At least 5 years of experience in trusts, estates, and tax law, particularly working with complex estate structures and high-net-worth clientele.
- Excellent drafting, research, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a legal team and independently manage client matters.
Compensation and Benefits:
$100,000-$300,000 plus per year based on experience. Benefits: 401(k), Dental insurance, Health insurance, Life insurance, Vision insurance
"Schedule:
The Trusts & Estates Tax Attorney will be expected to work full-time and may include occasional travel as needed.
